Civils Operative / Groundworker

Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced Civils Operative / Groundworker to support the delivery of a new EV scheme. The successful candidate will undertake a wide range of groundwork activities including drainage installation, concrete works, slab and paving installation, ducting, kerbing, excavation, reinstatement, and associated civil engineering works, ensuring all activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Drainage Works
- Installation of drainage systems.
- Laying drainage pipes, manholes, inspection chambers and catch pits.
- Ensuring correct line, level and gradient of all drainage installations.
- Assisting with drainage testing activities.
Concrete, Foundations & Structures
- Installation of concrete bases, footings and reinforced concrete structures.
- Forming and pouring concrete slabs and hard standings.
- Installation of reinforcement and formwork.
- Finishing and curing concrete in accordance with project specifications.

Duct Installation
- Excavation and installation of ducting systems.
- Installation of draw pits, chambers and service crossings.
General Groundworks
- Excavation, trenching and backfilling operations.
- Installation of bedding and sub-base materials.
- Ground preparation and compaction works.
- Assisting plant operators and other site personnel.
- Operation of small plant and tools where authorised.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Work in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures and site RAMS.
- Maintain safe working practices within a busy city centre environment.
- Ensure public safety is maintained at all times.
- Report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and environmental compliance.
- Wear and maintain all required PPE.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience within civil engineering or groundwork projects.
- Proven experience in:
- Drainage installation
- Concrete foundations and slabs
- Kerbing and paving
- Ducting and utility works
- Excavation and reinstatement
- Public realm and external works
- Ability to work from drawings, plans and site instructions.
- Strong understanding of quality standards and workmanship requirements.
Essential Qualifications
Desirable Qualifications
- CPCS / NPORS Plant Operator for:-
- Roller
- Dumper (6t forward tipping)
- Street Works (NRSWA) Accreditation.
- CAT & Genny Certification.
- Confined Space Training.
- Abrasive Wheels Certification.
Hours: Full Time (40-50 hours per week – Monday-Friday, with weekend only if required)
