IT Systems Transition Project Manager
£60,000 + milestone bonuses | Temporary contract | Potentially up to 2 years
Flexible working arrangement may be considered
Activus Recruitment is working with an established and successful business on an exciting business transformation project. Our client is preparing to embark on a major technology transformation, replacing three existing legacy IT systems with a streamlined, industry-specific ERP solution that will support the business from initial customer interaction through to payment and aftercare.
This is a significant project for the business and, as such, they are looking for an experienced IT Systems Transition Project Manager to lead the project from planning and requirements gathering through implementation, testing and ultimately go-live.
The role is currently in the preparatory stages, with the anticipated start date likely to be in autumn 2026, subject to the project timeline being confirmed.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Financial Director, you will take ownership of the systems transition project, acting as the key link between senior management, internal teams, technical specialists and third-party system providers. You will be responsible for ensuring the transition is carefully planned and delivered with minimum disruption to the day-to-day operation of the business. The successful candidate will need to be equally comfortable understanding business processes and requirements as they are working with technical teams and software suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the transition from multiple legacy systems to a new industry-specific ERP solution.
Work with internal stakeholders across the business to understand existing processes, requirements and pain points.
Map current processes and identify opportunities for improvement through the new system.
Support the definition and documentation of system requirements.
Work closely with third-party software providers, developers and technical specialists.
Manage project milestones, deliverables, dependencies and timescales using a proportionate project management methodology.
Coordinate system configuration, integrations and data migration.
Develop and manage testing plans, including user acceptance testing.
Coordinate training, implementation and change management activity.
Develop and maintain project documentation, plans, risk registers and action logs.
Identify potential project risks and roadblocks at an early stage and put appropriate mitigation plans in place.
Provide clear and regular project updates to Directors and key stakeholders.
Manage communication between technical teams, external suppliers and internal business users.
Ensure the transition to the new system is as seamless as possible, with minimal disruption to customers and staff.
Support the business through go-live and the subsequent stabilisation/aftercare period.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager who has successfully managed software, ERP, IT infrastructure or systems implementation projects and is comfortable taking ownership in a business where the technology project is closely linked to day-to-day operations.
You will need to be:
An experienced project manager with a proven track record of managing IT or systems implementations.
Confident working with senior stakeholders and Directors.
Highly organised, structured and commercially aware.
Comfortable working with ambiguity and developing structure where it doesn't currently exist.
A strong communicator who can engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Calm and solutions-focused when projects encounter challenges.
Confident managing third-party suppliers and holding them accountable for delivery.
Technically literate, with a good understanding of systems, integrations and data.
Able to quickly understand complex business processes and translate them into practical system requirements.
Proactive in identifying risks rather than simply reacting to problems.
Experience
Ideally, you will have:
3–5+ years' experience directly managing software, ERP, IT infrastructure or systems rollout projects.
Experience taking a systems implementation through the project lifecycle, ideally through to testing and go-live.
Experience working with ERP systems and/or business-critical software.
Understanding of data migration and system integrations.
Familiarity with APIs, cloud environments and/or data structures.
Experience working with external software vendors and technical teams.
Knowledge of SAGE would be advantageous.
Previous experience within the KBB or a related industry would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
Project & Contract
This is a temporary project role, expected to run for the lifetime of the implementation, potentially up to two years.
The initial salary indication is £60,000, with additional milestone-related bonuses available. Continuity is particularly important to our client, and the bonus structure is intended to recognise successful delivery and commitment throughout the project.
The client is also considering whether certain stages of the project could be delivered on a part-time/fractional basis, so candidates interested in a flexible or day-rate arrangement are encouraged to discuss this with us.
The anticipated start date is autumn 2026, although the exact timing is still being finalised.
Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a major business transformation project rather than simply manage a defined IT workstream.
You will have the opportunity to shape how the project is approached, work directly with senior decision-makers and play a key role in moving the business from multiple legacy systems to a new platform designed around the way the business operates.
