We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their team. This is a key role in ensuring that health and safety remains at the forefront of operations across the business and its projects.


Main Purpose of the Role

To provide health and safety guidance and management to project delivery teams, ensuring that all work on site is risk assessed and managed in compliance with statutory requirements and industry best practice. The role will oversee health and safety across projects and business operations, supporting the elimination or reduction of risks through proactive assessment, training, and collaboration.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring health and safety procedures are fully adhered to, breaches are dealt with promptly, and the reputation and standards of the company are upheld at all times.


Key Responsibilities

Supply Chain

  • Review subcontractor health and safety documentation, identifying improvements and resolving issues before works commence

  • Observe subcontractor operations during site visits, highlighting and addressing any safety concerns

  • Investigate subcontractor health and safety breaches, working with them to implement improvements

Production & Commercial

  • Attend handover meetings with operational teams to identify health and safety requirements before RAMS preparation

  • Ensure all company health and safety policies and procedures remain up to date with current legislation

  • Monitor HAVS compliance in line with regulations, liaising with teams to address issues

  • Provide health and safety advice to staff and supply chain partners

  • Ensure documentation is complete for site set-up, including F10, CPP, and insurance records

  • Carry out site inspections, prepare reports, and support project teams in closing out actions

  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures

  • Monitor company vehicle compliance, addressing maintenance and driving behaviours with operational teams and directors

  • Oversee weekly paperwork to ensure compliance with company procedures

  • Attend internal meetings including Contracts, Planning, and HSEQ

Systems & Training

  • Maintain and develop company health and safety systems, policies, and procedures in line with statutory requirements

  • Prepare bulletins and presentations to keep staff updated on requirements and best practice

  • Identify training needs, liaising with external providers to arrange cost-effective training solutions

Financial & Commercial

  • Implement health and safety systems and improvements through cost-effective measures without compromising safety standards

  • Work collaboratively across departments to continually improve project safety and strengthen team relationships


Authority

The Health & Safety Advisor will manage all aspects of health and safety across the company, with discretion to implement practicable safety measures. Decisions will be made in collaboration with project operational teams, ensuring that safety, commercial, and contractual interests are balanced and protected.

Internal: Project Delivery Teams (Supervisors, Site Managers, Project Managers, Contracts Managers), Procurement, Planning, Administration.
External: Clients, design teams, client site teams, client HSEQ teams, external H&S consultants.


Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in a health and safety advisory role within construction or a related industry

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, including CDM Regulations

  • NEBOSH (or equivalent) qualification in Occupational Health & Safety

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels

  • Strong organisational and reporting skills

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across sites nationally
